We place children domestically with couples, and single men or women, based on the preferences of the birth mother. In some cases, the birth mother is highly involved in identifying a family to adopt her child. In other cases, it is her preference that the agency matches her with a family. Generally, health parents between the ages of 25 and 40 have a shorter wait for newborn or infant children, however it all depends on the wishes of the birth mother.
Domestic Adoption has three different forms:
1. |
Open Adoption: In an open adoption, identifying information is fully disclosed and contact between the birth family and the adoptive family is frequent and continuous, depending on what the families agree on. |
2. |
Semi-Open Adoption: In a semi-open adoption, there is often an initial meeting between the birth family and the adoptive family. There may be occasional communication and exchange of pictures and information between the birth family and the adoptive family. This communication is facilitated through KidsFirst. |
3. |
Confidential Adoption: In a confidential adoption, all identifying information is confidential. There is no contact between the birth family and the adoptive family. |
| Once you have clarified you preferences about what type of adoption is the best for your family, and you have clarified other preferences (gender, race, social and health status of the birth mother, etc.) the length of time it takes until you are matched with a birth mother will vary from family to family, and is completely unpredictable, as it depends on the preferences of the birth mother. |
