Home studies are required for every adoption and must be completed in your state of residence. We know the home study process is a source of anxiety for some families. KidsFirst Adoption has been doing home studies for over 20 years and takes great care with each family to guide you through the home study process and help prepare you for adoption. A home study is an overview of your life and includes an in-depth interview, a home visit and the completion of a set of documents. The documents include criminal background checks, a medical report, financial information, references, and adoption education. Our Social Workers are here to walk you through every step of the process with care.

KidsFirst Adoption is licensed to provide home studies for domestic and international adoptions, including home studies that require Hague accreditation. We also complete stepparent, second parent and guardianship home studies. We do not provide home studies for foster care.

KidsFirst Adoption is a small agency with social workers who have personal experience with adoption. We put our heart into our work and are sensitive to the needs and situations of everyone involved in the adoption process. We at KidsFirst Adoption do not discriminate based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, height, weight, veteran status, military obligations, and marital status.

Home Study Services

  • 2 office visits and 1 home visit required for domestic and international adoption home studies
  • 1 home visit is required for stepparent and second parent home studies

Time Frame: Approximately 7-10 weeks from start to completion (3-4 weeks for stepparents and second parent), depending on the family’s availability and their ability to gather required documents. In urgent situations, home studies can be expedited for an additional fee.

Post Placement Services

KidsFirst Adoption is licensed to provide post-placement reports for domestic, international and Hague accredited adoptions. The number of post-placement meetings and reports required can vary dependent on the country (for international adoptions) or the state you adopt from. As your post-placement provider, we will guarantee that the requirements are met and provided. In Indiana, you can typically expect 2 post-placement meetings, one in the home and one at our office.

Criminal Clearances

KidsFirst Adoption provides criminal clearances only for adoptions not requiring a home study. This is completed through email and can be completed in 2-3 weeks depending on the family’s ability to gather required documents.
